Nakanyonyi Project Primary School Officially Launched in Namirembe-Kiyunga as Leaders Call for Educational Excellence and Responsible Parenting.

Namirembe-Kiyunga, Kyampisi Sub County – Mukono North

In a colorful and spiritually uplifting ceremony, Nakanyonyi Project Primary School was officially launched in Namirembe-Kiyunga, Kabembe Parish, Kyampisi Sub County. The function began with a thanksgiving service led by Rt. Rev. James William Ssebaggala, the retired Bishop of Mukono Diocese, and was attended by Rev. David Mukooza Ssalongo of Kiyunga Parish, various religious leaders, political representatives, school heads, parents, and pupils.

The school community, with the support of well-wishers, managed to raise UGX 1.5 million, and pledged an additional UGX 1.5 million, contributing toward the projected target of UGX 120 million needed to establish more classroom blocks and facilities.

In his sermon and keynote message, Bishop Ssebaggala urged teachers to dedicate themselves to nurturing pupils, whom he described as Uganda’s “future gold.” He also encouraged parents to actively support the school’s growth, despite its humble beginnings, reminding them not to underestimate the potential of the children.

Bishop Ssebaggala also issued a strong appeal to men in the community, challenging them to step up and take full responsibility in raising and educating their children, rather than abandoning this role to women alone. He condemned the behavior of fathers who neglect or reject their children and called for more accountable and supportive fatherhood.

Mr. Sula Mutyaba, the LC I Chairperson of Namirembe-Kiyunga, thanked the government for bringing such a valuable resource to their community, noting that schools are critical to village development. He also appreciated parents who had already enrolled their children in the school.

Hon. George Stanley Muwonge, Deputy Speaker of Mukono District Council and District Councilor representing Kyampisi Sub County, encouraged all parents in the area to bring their children to study at the school. He emphasized that educational development in the region depends on community participation and warned that failure to enroll children in school would be a failure on the part of the parents.

Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, the LC V Chairperson of Mukono District and Secretary for Education at the district level, officiated as the chief guest. He challenged all stakeholders managing the school to strive for excellence in academics. He emphasized that one of the district’s core priorities is improving the quality of education, especially in government-aided schools.

Rev. Bakaluba Mukasa echoed the call for men to take greater responsibility in households, emphasizing that often, when hardship strikes, women and children suffer the most. He criticized the tendency of men to abandon family obligations and called for a cultural shift towards responsible fatherhood.

He pledged that the district would support the school by constructing a UGX 40 million latrine facility, as well as an additional classroom block in the next financial year. He also personally committed to donating UGX 1 million to purchase cement to start laying the school’s foundation.

The school is currently headed by Mr. Fredrick Mirembe Ssebuyira, and the pupils’ entertained guests and parents with songs, dances, poetry, and other performances, leaving the attendees impressed and joyful.

Nakanyonyi Project Primary School was initially founded in 1993 and later integrated into the government system in 2003. It operates under the foundation of the Church of Uganda. The school was originally based in Nakifuma-Naggalama Town Council but was relocated and re-established in 2024 at St. Mark Kiyunga Church of Uganda, which serves as the headquarters of the Kiyunga Parish under the Mukono Diocese.

The launch of Nakanyonyi Project Primary School marks a new chapter for the Namirembe-Kiyunga community, offering renewed hope for educational advancement and social transformation.
